How many cars are too many? Recent results in the light of automated vehicles

Enlarged view: Colloquium flyer for Prof. Kay W. Axhausen

This talk will address the key dilemma of today’s transport policy that too many cars are fighting for the limited road space. In the absence of a clear speed (accessibility) policy, the productivity gains due to higher accessibility cannot be ensured. New results indicate that the number of single passenger used cars need to be limited with on-going population growth and static networks.

The possible arrival of automated – level five – vehicles promises to avoid the hard choices implied in the above dilemma. The talk will present new results, which show the limits of such expectations.
