The socioeconomic impact of high-speed rail network to cities: Evidence from China
Over the past decade, China has developed the most extensive high-speed rail (HSR) transportation network in the world. Although the HSR development is costly, it has brought tremendous social and economic benefits to cities. This talk will present a series of empirical studies on the socioeconomic impact of HSR to Chinese cities at national, regional and city levels. Topics include the causal impact of HSR to urban growth, new firm birth, environmental pollution, and housing market.
