PhD position - Green Economy / Environmental Politics
We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join our newly developed Swiss Minerals Observatory research team and examine the interaction of voluntary environmental initiatives in the private sector and governmental environmental policy-making.
The interdisciplinary research team (Swiss Minerals Observatory), with which the new doctoral student will be associated, includes several other doctoral students, postdocs, and several professors from the social sciences, environmental sciences, and engineering.
The research to be undertaken by the new doctoral student will use survey embedded experiments and field experiments to examine the interaction of voluntary environmental initiatives in the private sector and governmental environmental policy-making. The main supervisor for this doctoral dissertation will be Prof. Dr. Thomas Bernauer, in whose political economy research group the doctoral student will also spend parts or her/his time.
Requirements: completed Master degree in political science, political economy, economics, sociology, or social psychology; familiarity with survey and experimental methods, and with statistics; fluency in German and English (the empirical work will be in German, meaning that a strong command of German is a prerequisite; scientific publication output will be in English).
Starting date: from October 2017. Funding for 3-4 years (which is the average time for completing a doctoral degree at ETH Zurich).
