Global Economic Governance Seminar Series: ISTP Director Thomas Bernauer talks about the relation between International Trade and Environment

Public opinion is a crucial driver of trade policy, and environmental considerations are playing an increasing role in this area. Prof. Bernauer will examine whether and how citizens consider environmental concerns when forming opinions about trade and trade policy. The seminar takes place online on Tuesday, 17th November 2020, at 4.15 pm. It is offered within the framework of the Global Economic Governance Seminar Series.

About the seminar series

The external page World Trade Institute hosts a seminar series on different aspects of global economic governance. It consists of several stand-alone 2- or 3-hour seminars, in which leading experts are responsible for teaching. Their purpose is to allow students to benefit from the insights and personal experience of the experts invited and to engage in discussions with the experts and themselves on the aspects of global economic governance addressed.

Prof. Thomas Bernauer - Biography

Thomas Bernauer is a professor of political science at ETH Zurich. He and his research group are based at the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS), a joint institution of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, and at ETH Zurich’s Institute of Science, Technology and Policy. Thomas Bernauer obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Zurich in 1992. From 2004 to 2012, he was a member of the Swiss National Science Foundation’s (SNSF) Research Council. In 2011-2012, he served as President of the SNSF division (IV), responsible for national research programmes, NRP, and national centres of excellence, NCCR. Since 2015, he has served as Director of ETH Zurich’s Institute of Science, Technology, and Policy.
