The shifting landscape of public revenues in the age of electric vehicles: An economic modelling approach
Dr. Bessie Noll
Dr. Bessie Noll, an expert from the Energy and Technology Policy Group at ETH Zurich, will delve into the world of public revenues in the era of electric vehicles. The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) poses budget challenges due to declining fuel tax revenues. Dr. Noll will explore different EV tax approaches and their effects on the transition. The framework used assesses taxation options, employing a model to show the impact of three EV tax types in various global regions.
How are vehicles operated on the road?
Dr. Betsy Sandoval Guzmán
Dr. Betsy Sandoval Guzmán, a researcher from the Vehicle Systems Group at the Automotive Powertrain Technologies Laboratory, Empa, will offer an exploration of vehicle operations on our roadways. Her expertise will shed light on the work of Empa's Automotive Powertrain Lab, where they use machine learning to categorize vehicles based on their technical specs and typical usage and develop a tracking-based operational model for a comprehensive understanding of the fleet, essential for decarbonization strategies and operational taxation schemes.
Policy design issues in transforming the road funding system
Alessio Levis and Professor Thomas Bernauer
Alessio Levis, in collaboration with Professor Thomas Bernauer from the International Political Economy and Environmental Politics group at ETH Zurich, will talk about the multifaceted issue of policy design in the transformation of road funding systems. Their lecture is built upon the work of The Swiss Mobility Panel, which provides insights into public opinions on various policy preferences relating to EVs.
A major challenge: New road infrastructure financing in the context of increasing electromobility
Roman Rosenfellner
Roman Rosenfellner, representing the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), will address one of the challenges in the realm of sustainable transportation - financing new road infrastructure amidst the surge in electromobility. Mr. Rosenfellner's talk will explore how the mineral oil tax (and possibly other transport levies) is to be supplemented or replaced by a mileage-based levy. Including what are the options, opportunities and risks. Where are the opportunities and risks?
