The IDEA League Challenge Programme visits ETH Zurich: Innovating Digitalization in Healthcare

Over the past weekend, ETH Zurich hosted 40 talented students from universities around Europe as part of the IDEA League Challenge Programme. This year's cohort engaged in an in-depth exploration of digitalization and healthcare, with a focus on data security and integrity as part of ETH's module.

The IDEA League Challenge Programme consists of four long weekends hosted by IDEA League universities, where students take part in various modules exploring relevant issues at the intersection of technology and society. On behalf of ETH, the ISTP hosted the second module of the programme, focusing on the collection and storage of patient data in digitalized patient record systems.

Students gained an understanding of the issues surrounding digital patient record systems in the context of Swiss healthcare and the foundations of public opinion research through a series of engaging lectures and discussions led by expert practitioners. This included professors and researchers at ETH, the University of Zurich, Chalmers University of Technology, and RWTH Aachen. The weekend culminated in group work and presentations, enabling students to gain hands-on analytical experience in public policy research.

In addition to the hard work during the day, students got involved in team-bonding events, including a local Swiss dinner on Friday and an ice-skating excursion on Saturday night hosted by ETH students and IDEA League alumni.

The IDEA League Challenge Programme is unique in its design-oriented delivery, specifically geared toward students interested in leadership roles exploring the nexus of science, technology, policymaking, and entrepreneurship. The ISTP and ETH are once again grateful for the opportunity to host the IDEA League Challenge as a partner university.
