Open position: Graphics design/report writing job in the project Swiss Environmental Panel
Call for a graphics design/report writing job under student research assistant terms in the project Swiss Environmental Panel of ETH Zurich.
For the Swiss Environmental Panel project, headed by Prof. Thomas Bernauer (Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) and Institute of Science, Technology and Policy (ISTP), ETH Zurich), we are looking for someone to write reports in German and design graphics (f/m/d) in ways that are easy to understand for the general public. The main task will be the drafting of reports and graphics design for the descriptive results of past survey waves. The “Swiss Environmental Panel” is conducted in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU).
The successful applicant will start as soon as possible. The work will be paid for under a project-based contract. We envisage a workload of approximately 60 hours per report (including graphics) with a remuneration of 1,500CHF. There will be four reports in total. While candidates who are willing to write more than one of the reports are preferred, applications for one report are possible as well. Preferably, the successful candidate should write one report per month.
Project description
The research assistant will work for the project “Swiss Environmental Panel”. The Swiss Environmental Panel is a panel-study in the field of the environment and society run by ETH Zurich and financed by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment. It has been running biannually since 2018. It is the first long-term survey on these topics that is based on a representative sample of the Swiss population. We write reports for each survey wave that summarise results and heavily rely on graphics to communicate results. As the audience for these reports is policy makers and the interested general public, we seek to find a candidate who can produce graphics that look like they come from a print publication, newspaper, or magazine, not an academic paper.
Tasks
- Descriptive analyses of panel data,
- Writing reports (in German) that summarise results and key insights; and
- Focus on intuitive, clear, accessible graphics for online and print publications.
Skill set
- German native speaker with very good writing skills,
- Familiarity with R and/or STATA (and, as a plus, LaTeX and Git) and graphic design programs; and
- Prior experience with quantitative data analysis, ability to present research results to a broader public.
We are accepting applications on a rolling basis. Please include, in one single PDF file, a short motivation statement (max. 1 page), CV, latest transcripts, a sample of your work (both writing and ideally graphics, can be from different projects), and indicate how many of the reports you can write.
Please contact with questions on the position and for applications (one single PDF).
